 The family has been cultivating orchids for over 30 years. Due to their increasing number of in-house varieties, Fang Mei Orchids now specializes in the cultivation of their own orchid varieties. Domestic and export sales make up an equal share of Fang Mei Orchids business and exports mainly consist of trading company purchases of varieties and plants for resale to the U.S., Europe and Japan. Their mainstay product is Phalaenopsis orchids with colored blossoms. Having come into contact with orchids at an early age, he has developed a keen sensitivity to market demand. The varieties cultivated at the orchid farm include those colored blossoms favored in U.S. and European markets and other flower varieties in demand in the domestic market.
Among all of the wealth of colored blossom varieties grown at Fang Mei Orchids, Dtps.Fangmei Sweet is a new variety that is worth recommending. As a result of his knowledge of male and female characteristics and constant experimentation, PI-I Chou was able to breed an orchid that boasts splendid and remarkable colors. It won positive acclaim when unveiled at the 2009 International Orchid Show, Award of Quality (AQ) honors at the monthly meeting in April 2009 and the affirmation of his peers in the orchid industry. Additionally, Dtps.Little Gem Stripes, the female of Dtps.Fangmei Sweet, is a small white blossom orchid with lines and a red center. Its flowering period is longer than ordinary Phalaenopsis orchids lasting up to three months. Its branching double stem also conforms to European tastes. Being color and diverse and having a long shipping endurance, it has become a welcome addition to the orchid market.
In addition to having a greenhouse in the Taiwan Orchid Biotechnology Park, Fang Mei Orchids also has a flower induction site located in the high altitude region of Alishan. PI-I Chou hopes that his operation can continue to enjoy steady growth. By gradually expanding the size of his greenhouses and continuing to dedicate his efforts to breeding, he aspires to cultivate remarkable varieties that enhance the reputation of Fang Mei Orchids. Besides working to accumulate practical experience, PI-I Chou also attends orchid production and marketing courses and conducts exchanges with people in the industry and academia. His next objective is to seek out trustworthy partners in other countries for the development of international markets because he believes that the future for the Phalaenopsis orchid industry is full of hope and promise.
